LCCT mission location is a most of the girls in our area who are from low caste, landless coolies and tribal families stop their schooling at in the 10th standard due to reason like accessibility of schools and poverty. So either they join their parents to work as unskilled worker within the villages or migrate to big cities to work as domestic helps. Some girls are also taken out to cloth making industrial places like Thirupur or to export garments factories in Chennai by the middlemen for hard works and low payment on contractual basis. There they face innumerable sufferings and including sexual abuses.
Also there are no chances for them to find a work with dignity as they do not possess employable skills and there are also no opportunities for them to acquire the same as well as to improve their competency in the job market.
Some of the girls have to get married at young ages and take up the family responsibilities. Some of the girls who work as unskilled laborer also get married when they are able to save a few money for their marriage.
All of them will be back again in their villages doing unskilled works in the seasonal agricultural field. They have to continue their life same like their parents in the vicious cycle of poverty, not able educate their children and not able to lead a decent life.
Solution:
In order to break this cycle of poverty LCCT is providing short term (six months and one year) training on tailoring. The poor women and girls from poor Dalit/low caste, Tribal, landless and other poor communities learn simple dress making. LCCT continues to give training to 20 to 25 girls and women in a year.
